The place
This holiday residence opens to a view of Pisw Gialia beach, at Stenies of Andros and was designed as a dialogue between Cycladic architecture and the surrounding landscape.
The design proposal
The white volumes and stone walls are complemented by planting that softens the geometry of the house and connects it with the slope behind.
The plant palette
The composition relies on Mediterranean shrubs, aromatic perennials and ornamental grasses, creating textures that move with the wind and echo the character of the island. Flowering groundcovers are introduced along the passages, adding seasonal color and a natural rhythm to circulation areas.
Near the pool and sitting areas, the planting becomes denser and more fragrant, offering shade, freshness and a sense of intimacy. The result is a garden that feels both structured and spontaneous — a seamless transition between built space and natural hillside.
Ornamental grasses sway with the island wind, aromatic perennials and low shrubs form gentle scented clusters around terraces and pathways. Between the passages, flowering groundcovers bring splashes of seasonal color, guiding movement through the garden with a light, natural touch.
The garden is not an addition to the house, but its continuation — a landscape where architecture and nature coexist in harmony.
